What was the most bizarre way you ended up adopting a pet?
answered by Stacy Michell, 2 dogs, 5 cats, 6 people, and one snake live here.
So, about two weeks ago I was walking my dog Kate on Saturday evening. We were almost home, when a truck pulled over and the driver said, “Hey, do you want a four-month-old German Shepherd puppy with papers for FREE?” and I said “YES!!”
Kate, my first dog, was a gift from my maintenance man, George. She is still a puppy, about nine months old. When your maintenance man gives you a puppy, expect it to be a handful. Her nickname is “job security”. I said, “Why, George, you must really like working for me, because you just gave me 10–15 years of hair to sweep up and dog care when I travel.” She is the local mixed breed I call a “Griffin Terrier”: part pit bull terrier and border collie mix. And she is a busy active pup.
It took just a few minutes for the two dogs to warm up to each other, and a couple of days for Kate to accept Sampson getting snuggles from me. But he is here to stay. Two tired dogs are always easier to care for than one bored puppy.
The back story… a mother purchased the German Shephed for her 20-something daughter as her first dog. An $800 dog!! And he was just too much dog for a first-time owner. He had been well cared for, been to the vet, had his rabies tag. They were going to take him to the pound, and surrender him. But that puts you on a black list. So, they asked a stranger. I halfway thought they would not show up with the pup, but sure enough, 10 minutes after we parted ways in the street, they pulled up with the dog, papers and bag of food. They wished me well, and said thank you, and drove off. Welcome home, Sampson.
Wow! Almost 1,000 upvotes in less than 24 hours. I was at work today, and Kate stepped in front of the camera, thought I would share… Sampson is great in a kennel, Kate cries like a baby. Next, I will get a better shot of Sampson to share.
