Q. What is the best case of “You just picked a fight with the wrong person” that you’ve witnessed?
answered by : Frederick Morris, former Instructor at LATTC – Los Angeles Trade-Technical College (1988-2019)
I didn’t witness this myself, but a fellow teacher told me a story about one of his students. We teach at a trade school where almost all our students are young adults. The young man in question had been to prison and, as a condition of his parole, he was attending anger management classes in addition to his training with us. Nonetheless, the young man had a temper that he found difficult to control. After a blowup with another student, the teacher took him outside and told him he was going to have to start applying the things he was learning in anger management, or he wouldn’t make it. The following Monday, the young man approached the teacher.
“Over the weekend I was at a gas station waiting at the cashier to pay my bill,” he began. “A guy cut in front of me, so I called him on it, and he said, ‘Oh, you want a piece of me?’ I thought about what you said, and I decided to back off.”
He went on, “The man behind me stepped in, so the one who had cut in line pulled out a pistol and shot him in the head.”
“I just wanted to thank you,” he said.
