What are the top rules of your life?

S. Howell, MA Masters in Educational Administration, University of Missouri–Kansas City (1983)

  1. Always tell the truth. It doesn’t matter what it costs you.
  2. Meet anyone at least half-way.
  3. Don’t take advantage of someone just because you can.
  4. Treat others the way you want to be treated.
  5. Life is about “being” not “having.”
  6. Follow your parents guidance, even as an adult, as much as you possibly can.
  7. Sacrifice your time, money and energy on the success of your children and grandchildren.
  8. Be faithful to your spouse, and treat them as a friend. Expect the same from them.
  9. Save, save, save
  10. Live your life, and everything you do, with the end in mind.
  11. Life is hard, but it wouldn’t be worth living without hardships. Don’t try to avoid every problem. Learn to manage your problems.
  12. Do your best not to spend to much time looking back. The past is a cancelled check, the future is a promissory note, today is the only currency you have. Use it wisely.
  13. Focus as much, as you can on building relationships. Especially those in your own family.
  14. Life is not a sprint. It is a marathon. Don’t over exert yourself and leave nothing for the future. Focus on planning and making progress everyday.
  15. Finally, be kind to your parents as they age. Don’t neglect them or dump that responsibility on a sibling or anyone else.
