The pink fairy armadillo, indigenous to central Argentina, is the smallest armadillo in the world at approximately four inches in length and around four ounces in weight. In contrast, the nine-banded armadillo, more familiar to U.S. readers since it is found throughout North, Central, and South America, can be up to two feet long (not including the tail) and up to twenty-two pounds in weight.
